Craziness

Sooo...yesterday morning when I woke up, Grant said "Hey Sarah, did you hear the cops here last night?"  I, of course, thought he was joking.  Apparently not.  When he was coming to bed, around 11:30, he heard a really loud noise.  He walked around the house, and one of the windows in our soon-to-be nursery was shattered.  He called the cops, thinking someone might be trying to break in or vandalize the house.  The cops came and looked around.  The only footprints in the snow in the backyard were from some deer.  They started to look a little closer at the window and realized it shattered from the inside.  And only the inside pane of glass was broken.  Apparently it spontaneously combusted.  And, it was right over top of where the crib is going to go in a few short months.  (I know, cribs aren't supposed to go under windows, but both walls in the nursery have windows on them.)  Here's a picture (it's a little hard to make out, but it's the middle pane of glass).

So THEN, if that wasn't crazy enough--last night around 3:30am, I was eating Graeter's chocolate ice cream with race car driver Danica Patrick  (crazy dream), and BAM!!!!  The window right over my head burst.  Grant was downstairs, unable to sleep, so I yelled for him to come up.  Good thing he wasn't in bed at the time, because there were shards of glass on his pillow.  Crazy.  Two windows spontaneously combust in 24 hours.   Here's a picture of the one over our heads.  Yep, those are our pillows right underneath it (the pane on the right is the shattered one).
So, thankfully we have Gilkey windows, and they are an awesome company.  They had agreed to replace the first one for free.  Early this morning Grant called back, and said that he wanted someone to come to our house today to inspect all the windows in the house.  The Gilkey guy has come and gone already.  Apparently there was a third shattered window that we didn't even know about.  It must have shattered when we weren't home.  There were also two other ones that were on the verge of shattering.  He drilled all the windows to release the pressure (they shattered due to something about pressure and temperature and the volume of gas between the two panes of glass--something too scientific for me).  So, he's getting us all new windows for the entire house.  For FREE.  He said the cost would be around $12,000-15,000.    They should be in in about 3-5 weeks.

Oh yeah--good to know that I slept through a window shattering and three strange men (the cops) wandering through my house.  Not a comforting thought.  I don't know how I'm ever going to hear this baby....I've heard that your "mom" instinct just kicks in.  Let's hope it does!

And, of course, once my heart stopped racing last night, I had a craving for the Graeter's chocolate ice cream I was eating in my dream.  Unfortunately, Grant didn't feel like running to the store at 3:30am and leaving his scared, pregnant wife at home to buy it for me.  Nuts.  :)

Ummm...crazy. While reading it I was a little worried that maybe your roof was doing something weird or going to fall in. Thank goodness it was the window scientific thingy:) And yay that it happened before the baby was born and now you have all new windows. A blessing in disguise:) Oh, and I am also glad you were not hurt by the window shattering above your head!

Grant... haven't I taught you anything... you never turn down the cravings of a pregnant woman!! You could get yourself killed doing those sort of crazy things.

Wow, that is the craziest story I've ever heard; how bizarre! And how crazy that you slept though the shattering glass and police... I am such a light sleeper... I'm sorta jealous!

I saw your blog on the Steels and thought I'd come over for a look/read... happy to "meet you!" And congrats on the baby to come!

Jen--Thanks for stopping by :) I've been dropping in on your blog for awhile now...it's fun to get to know the people that are close to my brother and his family.

Whenever we make it up to NH, we'll have to get together!

Oh my goodness!!! I've never heard of such a thing!!! Thank goodness neither of you were hurt! And on the sleep thing - I don't know how it will be for you, but I used to be able to sleep through anything. Now I have Emma, and I don't think I'll ever sleep deeply again. Something definitely kicked in with me when I became a mommy!
