King's Island

Today was Grant's music contest.  He took his 7th and 8th grade bands and orchestras to a contest called "Music in the Parks."  It's a pretty cool set-up.  The kids compete at a local high school, then they get discounted tickets to King's Island (a huge amusement park).  They all had to be at our school at 7am this morning to load the busses.  They performed in the morning and we all (about 300 of us) were at the park by noon.  I went purely for the funnel cake :)  And oh boy--it was tasty!  Poor Grant didn't get to ride much, since he was with me, but we had a really nice time just walking around and enjoying a stress-free day.

Then, at 5:00pm all the kids that competed all day in the music contest gather in the large amphitheater for an award presentation.  Grant's kids did awesome!  His band got an "excellent" rating and 2nd place in their class.  His orchestra got a "superior" rating (the highest!) and 1st in their class.  THEN, the orchestra got top overall middle school orchestra of the entire day!  The kids were so pumped, and they now have 3 huge trophies to display at school.   I'm so proud of Grant and all that he's accomplished with his groups.

All in all, it was a great day with beautiful weather.  And I can now proudly proclaim that I survived King's Island 9 months pregnant.  We'll see if all that walking helped Alex decide to enter the world early :)
